Pancake Day 16th Feb 2021
All hail Saint Pancake!
That’s right isn’t it? The good old Saint of flipping fun and calorie laden treats? Pancake Day, or Shrove Tuesday, is actually the traditional feast day before the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday. Lent – the 40 days leading up to Easter – was traditionally a time of fasting and on Shrove Tuesday, Anglo-Saxon Christians went to confession and were “shriven” (absolved from their sins). nah… we prefer our version I think?
How do you like yours? In the office we decided elegant French Crepes Suzette was a bit of treat? Delicate thin pancakes drenched in lashings of alcohol and orange with a French twist. Banana and Nutella came a close second and eyebrows were definitely raised at the idea of bacon and syrup!
Whatever your choice, sweet or savoury, above all, it’s a fun family thing to make and enjoy them together? These are the memories your children will hold FOR EVER. Does it really matter if a flipped pancake misses the pan if your loved ones will laugh, smile, and talk about it into their old age?
If you’ve no idea where to start making a pancake, check out this recipe? https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/easy-pancakes It’s BBC daahhhling..it’s GOT to work? Right? Ooh yes, remember the very first pancake in the pan is ALWAYS a dud! Don’t ask? We’ve no idea. It’s pancake ‘law’ apparently!
Have a go? Have some fun? And if all else fails … have a look at The Leeds List ( https://leeds-list.com/food-and-drink/the-best-pancakes-in-leeds-to-take-away/) of incredible take away treats available right now, and it’s not even Tuesday yet!
